Mistborn series vs Potterverse

Heya Monks, here we have another week well spent. We’ve decided to put our favorite book series against one another.

Luckyfrog

I’ll try to be gentle, since you’re made for children
British ones at that, so just a couple of bell ends
But it’s time I bring up a copper cloud to make your spell end
Just another red head to the grave, I’ll send.

I mean, I guess you’re proof that to write you don’t need creativity
Just another teenage angst story full of stupidity.
Just skim through the wiki page for anything “supernatural”
And shove it in your plot hole casserole.

You solve any problem with the wave of wand to have the right ward
But let me show you a magic system that is actually hard.

We gain specific abilities based on vials of metal
While you burn through logic before your tea kettle
I’ve got that Iron pull and strategies that make you think
Not just expelliarmus to solve problems with every blink

So just cause you’re a hairy wizard doesn’t mean you have any chance to win
Because we’ve got a Mistborn here, and her name is Vin.

The Brick

Welcome you lot, and thank you monsieur!
Guv, we’ll try to be gen-teel that’s sure.
Your talk of creation is hilarious,
But bruv, you gots to be delirious.

Go ahead, correct me if I’m wrong here
But Lord Ruler’s not a feat of wit my dear.
Sure Sanderson’s got allomancers’ cunning
But our lady Granger’s just plain stunning.

You mention angsty teens waving wands about
But don’t you realize after book 1 you go sout’?
Now dry those tears, cuz we aint done,
After this your boggart will be Rowling, son!

Now you mentioned Weasleys in your diss,
And we tried our hardest just to dismiss.
But hold up while they grab the sword —
Check that, Art’s laughing at your magic — Lord!

“Vials of metal, thugs, and lurchers?”
“Is this how they expect to get past the bludgers?”
You see what he did, where his words did aim?
Was to compare your world to a wizard’s game!

Now let’s discuss wands before we finish,
A wizard’s powers without it don’t diminish,
While your mancers have metallic needs,
Wizards wands merely focus their deeds.

And you know I thought I’d leave it there,
But my heart still has more diss to bear.
Your writer seems to be quite fair,
But J. gave the world permission to dare.

Luckyfrog

So your complaint with us is the naming process?
Serious Black would like a word in his office.
Oh wait, but he died because.. I guess plot?
Added so much to the story and not just a random sad spot.
So many options, yet with one flick he’s gone.
But hey, at least he had more character development than Ron.

Don’t even get me started on Dumbledoofus the fool
Will somebody please call OSHA on this school
Got trolls, Cerberus, traps, snakes, and misc.
No security with several kids at risk

Sanderson writes and still hasn’t reached his peak
Didn’t take 7 books for a game of hide and seek.
Your expected patronum takes all of the fear out of “danger”
At any point did we really think we’d lose Miss Granger?
No instead we had to deal with her Ron Com
And oh no! Who will we take to the prom?!
Forget there’s a “dark lord” who shall not be named
So easily prevented.. everyone here is to blame.

The Brick

I see you, I hear you, now sit down and learn,
Like our own dear Minerva, we about to get stern.
I sat there and listened, then you sat down your pen,
Honestly all I could think of is where was your Vin?

You Sanderson boys love to gloat of your tale,
But please remember: it’s show us, don’t tell.
Rowling paints vivid landscapes and pages of thrills,
And continues with each book to inject us with feels.

Sanderson starts with such lovely, wonderful premises,
But soon the world and the story fall as flat as his nemesis.
I’d say that I’d sooner lick the lead out of dry paint,
But knowing that man, he’d turn me into an Allo’ saint.

Rowling in contrast has lead billions to read,
And her characters now inspire some to take lead.
As Dumbledore’s Army transcends from page to real life
I can totes understand why your stress does grow rife.

See the thing that you miss with every attempt
Isn’t the magic for which you hold your contempt.
Her stories aren’t grand because of some shining patronus,
But rather stand out for what they show that’s within us.

World is Better vs Worse

Heya Monks,

Another Tuesday and we’re still working on what kind of stuff we want to post to our channel/blog. This week we decided to tackle whether the world is actually improving or if we’re actually in the dark timeline and there’s no hope. This may not be our best as again, we do this during work to help pass the time… but hopefully some people still enjoy it as much as we do. Seemed appropriate considering it’s voting day!

Charles (Luckyfrog)

Let’s talk about how this world is a mess.
So much hate to pass around, lay Ghandi to rest.
Even those who claim to be noble only lookin’ out for themselves.
We’ve got goblins in office disguised as elves.
So many distractions while they take our law and order;
But it’s fine, cause we got a starbucks round the corner.

Let’s ask Castille how he feels about the state of the nation.
NRA got his back, so don’t speak. That’s work time you’re wastin’.
Time we don’t have because the hurricanes are coming,
But don’t focus on that because there’s people kneeling or something…
Houston lives matter, that’s where we sent our aid;
But Puerto Rico ain’t got the rights to get paid.

And this is just America, there’s so much more to discuss.
Though I guess we just sit back and wait for China to dominate us.
Brazileans, Venezuelans, Turks, Iranians all die to corruption.
But they’ll protect us from those scares as long as you vote republican.

Seth (The Brick)

Well let’s start this off, and of course, I admit,
We can always stand to improve things a bit.
And while Philando and cages and Reps got us down,
Let’s ponder a bit and turn away from that frown.

Sure there’s Starbucks and Apple, and Insta a plenty
But focus on progress, past the vapid and empty.
To start with small victories, and wins for us all,
Saudi women can now drive themselves to the mall.

Sure it seems like a cherry, picked only for this
But improvement and progress goes forward in bits.
To hearken back just a few decades before,
A man on the moon, showed us how to be more.

And sure, we still have crime and poverty here,
We can still talk about India and China and fear,
But since Tiannamen square, it’s been a minute,
So why not let’s take to statistics and spin it.

Violent crime and poverty, plummet each year,
While tech improvements let us talk Zaire!
Those who are bullied now tend to get back up,
And those who spew hate get punched or shut up.

Now I know we’re not perfect, and with tech growing large
We have to get woke, stay aware, and take charge,
But looking back, just in our own lives instead,
Our major problems today tend to be up in our head.

Charles (Luckyfrog)

I don’t mean to break your concentration as you open your Kampf.
Sure just more toys help to distract us under Drumpf
But this Christmas not even Saint Nicholas can save kids from the Cage.
So let’s keep on dabbing, hide our faces to not rage.

You say we’ve improved but I think we’re just comfortable;
Afraid to lose what little we have so we give up our lunchables.
To the bullies in office who make all decisions…
Did I say in office? I meant the corporates behind the television.
How can I have open arms to the world to help those who plead,
When I’m too busy holding the stuff that I think that I need?

Seth (The Brick)

So you think you’re intelligent referring to “Drumpf”
Thinking “how smurt, how clever!” – go sit on a stump.
Cuz friend, pal, buddy o’ mine, have we got a lesson today;
The problem here is your outlook, your view is too damn grey.

Growing up with Alanis, I see you took her little pill,
It’s ironic to speak of tv of which you’ve had your fill.
Media is fretting, and we’re boycotting these PACs
We see the lies they spread, we’re calling out the hacks.

I know, I know: cages, walls, and hate.
I see it, I do, and at times I almost faint.
Philando obeyed, and still got his shot,
While cops obstruct at every open slot.

Please, bear with us, Rome took more than just a day,
Change takes time, baby steps, even if now seems so cray;
But remember talks of swamp? of getting rid of leeches there?
Victory will be seen at polls, so get out and vote, declare.

Emotional Pain vs Physical Pain

Heya monks, trying something new which could apply to a lot since we haven’t posted anything yet. So Seth and I work together at a job place on the same team.. every day…

Anyways! We do our best to survive the drudgery that is a day by using our favorite medium to communicate: typed words. Mostly because nobody can actually hear me speak.

Anyways! x2

As fans of words, we’ve become pretty big fans of rap music. So with that, we’ve decided to come up with hopefully interesting topics to debate through mostly means of rhyme while we avoid work.

Seth (The Brick)

You talk pain, talk bodied by Jensen
But how can that compare with all this tension?
A room so thick, you can cut with a knife
Physical wounds can’t keep pace with the strife.

Awkwardness, worry, stress, and fear,
All of these feelings are friends so dear.
I say friends, when really, what I mean is –hah-
With friends like these, who needs enemies brah.

Listen, I know, you probably got some lyrics writ,
Gonna wax poetic, how body hurt more than wit,
But let me just leave you, let me leave you with this,
If body’s pain is worse, why do we slit our wrists?

Charles (Luckyfrog)

No pain no gain is what they say
But the only gain I feel is the longer day
This fear I feel as it runs through DNA
That no child I’ll hold to not pass the pay

You may feel loss and your heart may ache
But I feel one of these days my knees will break
Just as your pain extends from your mind to your body
My body won’t allow my mind to feel jolly.

You wake up and feel this weight on your shoulders
But now add that weight when you’re already broken.
Can’t stand to stand how do I enjoy life?
When the pain is too great, you can’t even lift the knife.

Seth (The Brick)

Aight aight, I heard you my fella,
But consider this, sit back why I tell ya.
You talk about weight and pain and a knife,
How your body causes such an unhappy life.

Head, shoulders, knees and fall
Can’t you see you’ll lose it all?
How to stand you sit and ruminate,
Why don’t I continue and illuminate.

Keller, Charles, Wonder, and Hawking,
All had impediments what caused some gawking.
How then so happy when portrayed as broken?
Because the true pains in life often go unspoken.

Can’t even lift a knife you might say,
When the brain’s in pain, no wait will it stay.
Famous phrase goes: mind over matter,
But how’s it go when the mind’s a splatter?

So this is just our first one, please let us know what you think. I’ll be looking to post a new one every Tuesday if possible. I figure, we do this every week anyway, why not see if others are interested?

Thanks!
